On the day they held their first official workout, the Baltimore Orioles announced pitcher Kyle Bradish will open the season on the injured list with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament. Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Bradish received a platelet-rich plasma injection to treat the injury. “He’s going to start his throwing progression tomorrow, but that progression is going to be something that takes some time. Bradish’s injury is particularly notable because the Orioles already are unsure about left-hander John Means’ status for the start of the season. The most valuable of all the Phillies, Harper insisted he was fine. Harper hit two homers in Game 3 and stared down Arcia each time as he trotted around second base. After Game 4, the Phillies had their fun, spraying Harper with beer and gleefully yelling, “Attaboy, Harper! A night after he hit two homers in Game 3, Castellanos became the first Phillies slugger, heck, any slugger in baseball history, to drill multiple homers in consecutive playoff games. Castellanos continued to wave his arms toward the crowd as he headed to right field in the seventh with the Phillies up 3-1.

September 16 - The Miami Marlins, who are set to host the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, are perhaps the most improved team in the National League. Luis Arraez, who leads the majors with a .349 batting average, has been the catalyst for Miami's offense. Soler, who leads Miami with 35 homers, hasn't played since Sept. 5, but he has been taking batting practice. The Braves (96-51), who have already clinched their sixth straight NL East title, announced that lefty Jared Shuster would start Saturday. Acuna leads the majors with 66 steals and is three homers shy of his first 40-40 season.

The Milwaukee Brewers were tied with the Miami Marlins in the fifth inning Thursday when Taylor attempted to score from second on Sal Frelick's single. Although the throw from right fielder Jesús Sánchez beat him to the plate, Taylor avoided catcher Jacob Stallings' tag and slid home with the go-ahead run in the Brewers' 4-2 victory. “I think it's all instinctual,” said Taylor, who also hit two RBI doubles. RHP Johnny Cueto (1-4, 6.15 ERA) pitches for the Marlins and RHP Bryce Elder (12-4, 3.38) starts for the Braves on Friday. Mike Rizzo spent his first five years with the Washington Nationals painstakingly assembling a roster designed to make the club competitive enough to win a World Series. Washington signed Rizzo to a multiyear extension on Wednesday that will give the 62-year-old a chance to see if history can repeat itself. Jackson Rutledge, a first-round pick by Washington in 2018, will make his major league debut on the mound Wednesday. “Nobody aims to win 70 games in a season, they want to win 90 games in a season. “They’re looking forward to coming out the other end and start being a contender in this league,” Rizzo said.

"I thought Matt would be the guy to break the record,” Jones said last weekend in Atlanta when his number was retired. Olson hit a solo shot in Atlanta's 7-6 win over the Phillies in 10 innings on Tuesday, tying the team record Jones set in 2005. Olson was raised in the Atlanta area and grew up a fan of Jones and the Braves. Olson hit two homers a night earlier against the Phillies, and the milestone 50th had to be retrieved from a fan. Olson, who also has a 10-game hitting streak, entered the game on pace for 56 homers and 143 RBIs.
